It's so annoying. We can all see where this generally will end up. They are either going to reduce the player share to somewhere between 47-50% from the jump or in a way where it regresses back to that level throughout the new CBA. They will have to grandfather in existing contracts more than likely for the PA to sign off on it. If we can all see that why are these goofs taking so long to get it done?

It's pure lunacy. I can't for the life of me, contemplate the idea that they have the same number in mind, but they don't want to appear being the side that blinks. Hell, if the PA thinks that it's bad PR, to show weakness, then just spin it differently. Say: We did this for our fans, not for the owners, because we're not the greedy one's here. But of course, they have to take the same road as the owners and act as if they're pr!cks. Well? That tells me that both sides are a bunch of pr!cks and deserve no sympathy.

it's a labor deal. this is how they work. same for telephone unions and management and hockey players and management. billions of dollars at stake. the best bet is to have the sources bound and gagged and let this play out.

If the deal is reached in time to have a season:
Thanks, but you all still suck, because this should have been worked out by September 1st. However I will forgive you, except Bettman, just because you are a total tool.

If the entire season is lost:

The NHLPA's reluctance to put another offer on the table is tied to past experience where they feel the NHL has "taken a mile whenever we gave an inch." The most famous being the salary reduction concession last time around...The offer was made as an alternative to a salary cap and ended up being include with a cap.

really? 24% rollback was "an inch"? funny, because at the time, i remember the PA talking about how massive a concession it was. seems to me like the league is looking for any kind of meaningful concession, which they would follow with concessions of their own. but the PA obviously feels it's way too early in the game to make any meaningful concessions.

this lockout may have been instigated by the owners, but make no mistake: the players are the ones dragging it out longer than it has to be.

I could not disagree more with that. The players have agreed to give up Millions in future salary. What has the League agreed to do to fix the core economic issues? The answer is nothing. They want the players to pay the full bill with salary rollbacks. The League has offered zero compromise. It is the League and the Owners in my opinion dragging this out. They have to agree to heavily increase revenue sharing between the richer and poorer clubs and take care of problems in house. Instead of just taking more from the players. They did that last time. What happened? Led us to this point. The League needs to step to the plate here. And if I'm the players, I don't move until they do so.

All of the options are being considered and talked about all the time by both parties. But, putting an offer on the table is something very different. The next NHLPA offer will determine if a deal is done in the near term. My guess, the informal discussions go directly at the core financial issues. The next offer from the NHLPA results in a deal. If not they are all back at square one. It is important to take their time and get it right. Fehr already knows his deal in terms of what the NHL will accept. He is being both wise and prudent in moving cautiously at this time.

i don't know of any negotiation where the union receives a counter/proposal and simply says "nah, what else you got?" if the PA came in with something meaningful, and the owners then didn't budge off their core proposal, i'd be with you. but the players need to make concessions. they've admitted as much. and until they make a meaningful concession, i hold them more responsible for this mess. just my opinion though.

I think that this week will be the clarion point to the season. If they PA gives a decent proposal and they can get close to where it needs to be, then we'll see hockey in November. If the owners bock at the proposal and submit a counter proposal, that is too ridged on the PA, then the sides walk away. At this point, I feel the season will be over. Both sides will raise the black flag and try to destroy each other. I have a feeling that both sides are miscalculating the reaction of the fans. They may have gotten away with losing a season, 7 years ago, but that Mulligan has sailed and the fans won't come back so easy, this time. Sure, the Canadian fans will always come around, but they won't be so anxious to shell out big dollars, due to increased revenue sharing. Bettman and Fehr better know, that a couple of the Canadian franchises will be in trouble (Ottawa, Winnipeg). So they better get this done.

There is zero chance of the next NHLPA offer resulting in a deal. If your following the core issues you know that. The League has not come close to doing what the NHLPA thinks it needs to do in a compromise partnership, for the NHLPA to agree to what needs to be agreed upon.
